Men’s DMR Breaks School Record at GVSU Big Meet to Highlight Weekend for Cardinals

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team competed in two locations over the weekend. Distance runners on the men's side traveled to Boston University to run the 5K at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, while the rest of the team competed at the GVSU Big Meet.

Jack Lobodzinski and Jacob Walker hit NCAA DII qualifying times of 4:15.82 and 4:16.39 in Boston. Adam Thomas clocked a 14:35.77 in the race, while Nick McArdle crossed the finish line in 14:36.61.

At GVSU, Sawyer Moloy won the men's high jump after matching his PR with a height of 2.18m. Xavier Santiago cleared the bar at 2.05m to place 12th in the event.

Andrew Quinn had another strong showing in the throws as he finished second in the shot put with an NCAA DII qualifying throw of 17.73m.  Noah Shaw also had a good showing in the weight throw with an NCAA DII qualifying mark of 19.04m to place ninth in the event. Kadyn Warner finished top 12 in the shot put with a toss of 14.84m.

Trevor Culpepper placed third in the men's 60m dash final after a time of 6.84 seconds. Culpepper achieved an NCAA DII qualifying time of 6.79 in the preliminaries of the event.

The men's distance Medley Relay Team of Corey Bowers, Darryl Carter, Bryce Husen, and Dominic Suliman highlighted the final day of the GVSU Big Meet with a new school record time of 9:45.05 to finish third.

Isaac Tanis ran the 5K in 14:57.39 to place fourth in the race.

Brin Ciglenecki was top-five in the men's pole vault after clearing 4.37m to finish fifth in the event. Noah Thames finished three spots back from Ciglenecki in eighth after clearing the bar at 4.37m as well.

Darryl Carter finished 11th in the men's 400m with his time of 48.63.

Sam Meriweather placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.53m. He was also 12th in the men's 200m with a time of 21.90. Jordan Paige also placed sixth in his flight of the long jump with a jump of 6.80m.

For the women's team, Janae Hudson highlighted in throws with an NCAA DII qualifying mark of 17.42m in the weight throw to place third in the event. She also threw the shot put, finishing 17th after a toss of 12.19m.

Taylor Moyers placed sixth in the 400m with a time of 58.50. Kinsie Jacques was also sixth with her 17:45.25 time in the women's 5K.

Grace Harkenrider was seventh in the mile after a time of 5:00.11. Kendell Wilcox was seventh in the women's high jump after achieving a clearance of 1.54m.

Tara Szuper placed 10th in the women's 3k after a time of 10:04.61.

Marisa Johnson finished top 15 in the 200m with a time of 25.62 to place 15th.

The women's distance Medley Relay team of Grace Harkenrider, Taylor Moyer, Sydney Fontaine, and Karissa Picard earned an NCAA DII qualifying time of 11:54.65 to finish 11th.

UP NEXT: The Cardinals return home for the SVSU Tune Up meet on Friday, February 20 to prepare for the GLIAC Indoor Championships that will happen the following weekend.
