Andrew Quinn Breaks School Record in Shot Put at Ashland, Women Host W-C-W Tri-Meet

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track teams competed in separate locations over the weekend. The men's team traveled to Ashland, Ohio to compete in the two-day Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational, while the women's team hosted the annual W-C-W Tri Meet with Northern Michigan and Wayne State.

Andrew Quinn highlighted the weekend as he set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 18.27m to win the men's shot put elite event. Quinn also won the weight throw with a toss of 17.13m.

Back in University Center, Madisyn Lundquist won the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.62m. Grace Collett won the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.44. Chaniya Madison was the winner of the 60m dash with a time of 7.76. Karissa Picard crossed the finish line first in the 800m with a PR time of 2:13.54. Janae Hudson was the final women's winner with her new PR in the weight throw of 16.81m earning her the top spot in the standings. Hudson also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 12.59m.

Timyah Meeks finished behind Hudson in the weight throw after she earned a mark of 15.93m in the event. Meeks was sixth in the shot put after a throw of 11.61m.

Sami Potts placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.32m and Gracie Warner was fifth at 3.17m.

Three more Cardinal women set PR times while placing in the top 10 of the 800m run. Sydney Fontaine was first among the trio as she finished third with a time of 2:14.07. Grace Harkenrider was next in fourth with her time of 2:14.73, and Bailey Schmoldt placed eighth with her mark of 2:18.83.

Taylor Moyer also set a new PR with her second-place time of 26.00 in the 200m. Natalie Formsma collected two top-five finishes with a second-place showing in the high jump (1.57m) and a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles (9.38).

Tara Szuper was the top finisher in the mile run with a new PR of 4:58.67 that placed her third in the race. Jenna Sweeney trailed her in fourth, also setting a new PR with a time of 4:59.99. Kelcie Pung clocked a PR as well with a time of 5:23.51 to place eighth.

Lauren Thomas was another top-three performance after she finished third in the 3000m after crossing the finish line in 10:39.11. Evelyn O'Connor was fourth in that race with a time of 10:44.89, and Gracie Youngblood placed eighth at 11:30.05.

Tori Henson was the last top-three result for the Cardinal women as she set a new PR in the long jump with a mark of 5.32m to finish third. She also competed in the triple jump, placing eighth in that event after a leap of 9.25m.

Alicia Fields set a PR in the 300m after clocking a 41.71 second finish to place fifth in the event. Ava Gray finished just behind her in sixth with a time of 41.97. Gray also finished sixth in the long jump with a PR of 5.15m.

The annual three-team meet concluded with the 4x300m relay. The SVSU team consisting of Madisyn Lundquist, Taylor Moyer, Natalie Formsma, and Alicia Fields placed second after a time of 2:49.26.

Meanwhile, in Ashland, Xavier Santiago won the high jump after clearing the bar at a new PR height of 2.16m to earn the crown in that event. Sawyer Moloy finished behind Santiago in the high jump after a clearance of 2.11m.

Jordan Paige won the long jump after earning a mark of 6.96m during the second flight. Sam Meriweather finished sixth in the event with his best jump of 6.49m.

Bryce Husen set a new PR in the 800m race as he placed second with a time of 1:52.36.

Noah Shaw was third in the men's weight throw elite event after a mark of 18.79m.

Colden Gray also tallied a third-place finish with his time of 1:59.66 in the 800m. Skylar Jess-Isenegger finished in the top 10 of the 800m with a seventh-place time of 2:00.35.

Ryan Reynolds earned the final place in the top five of the men's weight throw with a heave of 15.45m, and Kadyn Warner placed fifth in the men's shot put with a best throw of 15.35m in that event.

Zach Harlan was the final top-five finish for the men with his 6.88 second finish in the 60m dash final that earned him fifth in the standings.

UP NEXT: The track and field team will hit the road next weekend before returning home to host the SVSU Tune Up meet on Friday, February 20.
