Huebner, Williamson claim weekly GLIAC Track & Field honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -  The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams returned to outdoor competition with three separate events last weekend, with several Cardinals putting together strong performances.

For their efforts, Lauren Huebner has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Cheyenne Williamson has been awarded the GLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.

Huebner, a senior from Saginaw, took first place in two events for the Cardinals at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invite, including the 400-meter hurdles. She crossed the line in a time of 59.63 seconds, hitting the NCAA DII Provisional qualifying time. She also won the women's javelin throw with a best of 31.84m.

Williamson, traveled to Duke University in Durham, N.C., to compete in Tobacco Road Challenge women's heptathlon. She finished in third place for the Cardinals at the event filled with top talent from NCAA DI. The Essexville, Mich., native scored 5,517 total points in the event, hitting the NCAA DII Automatic Qualifying mark.

Williamson won the heptathlon long jump with a best of 6.11m and crossed the line first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.35 seconds.

The Cardinals are in action next at the Oakland University Grizzly PR Classic Saturday in Rochester, Mich.
