UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After winning three national titles last week at the 2021 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championships, sophomore Cheyenne Williamson joined the ranks of the elite with another accolade announced on Tuesday.
The Saginaw Valley State University standout was named the USTFCCCA NCAA DII Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, joining the very best across the nation.
"This award means to me, that I have a lot of people that believe in and support me, and I have to keep working," Williamson said. "This is motivation to accomplish more if I stay focused and believe in myself. I couldn't have done it without my teammates and coach pushing me every day. This makes me feel like I'm reaching towards my full potential."
Williamson won the NCAA DII Indoor national title in the pentathlon, long jump, and 60-meter hurdles last week in Birmingham, Ala.
The titles were the first indoor national title for an SVSU women's athlete in 30 years.
"Being awarded the national field athlete of the year is an extremely high honor," SVSU Head Coach Rod Cowan said. "The award is validation for the hard work she's put in academically as well as athletically. Her performance at the national championship meet has served as a recharging of the batteries for our entire roster."
Williamson and the entire SVSU team now turn the focus to the 2021 outdoor season.
