Eight Cardinals Selected for the NCAA DII National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division II swimming and diving championship selections were announced Wednesday evening. Saginaw Valley State University's swimming and diving program had eight selected.

Carolina Bononi Heinz, Andrea Bustos, Ella DesJean, Samantha Fowler, and Lexi Hieber were all selected for the women's team while Hadyn Gould, Rory Kauffman, and Alvaro Rodriguez are the three selections for the men's team.

Bononi Heinz, Bustos, Fowler, and Hieber were selected for the 800-yard freestyle relay with DesJean chosen as an alternate for the event. Hieber will compete in the distance events with the 500-yard, 1000-yard, and 1650-yard freestyle. Bononi Heinz joins her for individual competition in the 200-yard freestyle and enters with the 17th-best time. Hieber is ranked 8th in the 1000, 10th in the 500, and 13th in the 1650.

Gould will compete in the 100-yard backstroke for the men and is joined by Rodriguez in the 200-yard butterfly. Kauffman qualified for the NCAA DII Diving Qualification Meet and has a chance to qualify for the National Championships in the dives. Gould enters ranked 16th in the backstroke and Rodriguez is 19th in the butterfly.

The NCAA DII National Championships take place Tuesday, March 10 through Saturday, March 14 at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana.
