Swimming & Diving Sits Fifth After First Day of GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving kicked off the GLIAC Championships on Friday with day one of four at the Holland Aquatic Center. Both the men's and women's teams are in fifth place after the first 11 events as the men have 114 points and the women have 102.

Lexi Hieber had the best finish for the Cardinals, taking second in the 1000-yard freestyle. She finished with a Division II B cut time of 10:04.08. William HsiaoNathan Walker, and Hadyn Gould posted the other DII B cut times for SVSU as Hsiao finished ninth in the 1000-yard free (9:24.05) and Walker finished ninth as well in the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.21) in the finals of their events. Gould had a DII B cut finish in the 200-yard individual medley in the preliminary, finishing first with a time of 1:48.30. Walker finished 11th in the preliminary to qualify for the finals where he jumped up two spots.

Both relay teams took fourth as the women's team of Hannah Martin Cook, Kaylene Darbee, Nina Pavlovic Cano, Carolina Bononi Heinz finished with a mark of 1:44.83 and the men's team of Gould, Alp Hacioglu, Alvaro Rodriguez, and Álmos Szedlák had a finishing time of 1:27.77.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley is back in action for day two of the GLIAC Championships Saturday, February 7. The preliminaries start at 10:00 AM with the finals at 5:30 PM.
