GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University swim and dive delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, sweeping a tri-meet against Aquinas College and Albion College while setting five pool records at East Grand Rapids High School.
The Cardinals were in control from the opening events, winning both the women's and men's 200-yard medley relays to set the tone for the day. SVSU went on to pile up victories across the swimming and diving sessions, winning 21 of the 26 events.
On the men's side, Saginaw Valley earned decisive wins over both opponents, defeating Aquinas 179–63 and Albion 197–38. The women were equally impressive, topping Aquinas 162–76 and Albion 164–64, completing the clean sweep of the tri-meet.
Lexi Hieber took home three wins, two individual, with victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle with times of 54.71 seconds and 1:57.23 respectively. She was the last leg of the 400-yard free relay along with Carolina Bononi Heinz, Andrea Bustos, and Samantha Fowler who took first with a time of 3:42.15.
Bustos also took home the 500-yard free, finishing in 5:21.19. Bononi Hienz had a victory in the 50-yard free as well with a time of 24.85 seconds. Fowler won the 400-yard individual medley with a mark of 4:39.21 and had a second-place finish in the 100-yard fly.
William Hsiao took home two wins in the distance, completing the mile in 16:00.55 and the 500-yard free in 4:36.71. Álmos Szedlák took home first in the 200-yard free (1:39.37), Emir Nigdelioglu won the 50-yard free (21.60), Florian Quappill finished first in the 100-yard fly (50.77), Rodrigo Vargas won the 400 IM (4:12.83), and Hadyn Gould won the 100-yard backstroke (50.53).
Rory Kauffman took home the lone diving win with a score of 319.40 in the 1-meter dives.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley swimming and diving heads to Davenport next week for their final meet before the GLIAC Championships. The Cardinals and Panthers get in the pool at 3:00 PM at the Kentwood Aquatic Center.
