UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program had a massive weekend at the three-day Don Kimble Invitational hosted by Davenport. Both teams won the invite with the women defeating seven teams and the men defeating six, and Haydn Gould and Layla Winklepleck have earned GLIAC Swimmer and GLIAC Diver of the Week for their performances.
Gould was a member of the 400 medley relay team that broke the program record with a mark of 3:15.61. The sophomore also had NCAA B Cut times in the 100 backstroke (47.92) and the 200 IM (1:48.95), helping lead the team to their first-place finish.
Winklepleck took second and third in the dives over the weekend. The freshman placed second in the 1 meter dives with a score of 355.10 and third in the 3 meter dives with a score of 362.65.
These are the first GLIAC Athlete of the Week awards for Gould and Winklepleck's careers and are the fourth and fifth for the program this year.
SVSU swim and dive is done for the calendar year, getting back in the pool in the second week of January.
