VALPARAISO, Ind. – Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving swept Valparaiso on Saturday in their dual meet against the Division I program. The men won all but one event and the women won eight of the 14 events they competed in. SVSU men's swim and dive defeated the Beacons 187-75 while the women's team won 150-112.
Highlighting the men's performance was the 200-yard freestyle relay, breaking the pool record previously set by Lewis (1:25.87). Adam Bebars, Florian Quappill, Halit Bora Cabbar, and Kyan Harnum finished the relay with a mark of 1:23.47.
SVSU opened the meet with wins in both of the 200-yard medley relays. The women's quartet of Ella Banning, Kaylene Darbee, Nina Pavlovic Cano, and Carolina Bononi Heinz set the tone with a time of 1:49.59, while the men's relay of Hadyn Gould, Alp Hacioglu, Alvaro Rodriguez, and Bebars cruised to victory in 1:32.23.
Lexi Hieber continued her standout season, winning the 1650-yard freestyle in 17:39.62 and the 500 free in 5:11.70, while Bononi Heinz swept the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 1:55.38 and 53.68, respectively. On the men's side, William Hsiao dominated distance, capturing the 1650 free (15:41.45) and the 500 free (4:35.40), and Álmos Szedlák earned a trio of victories in the 50 freestyle (21.00), the 200 freestyle (1:40.96) and the 200 IM (1:57.08).
SVSU also swept the butterfly events, as Rodriguez won the 200 fly (1:52.91) and 100 fly (50.78), while Pavlovic Cano claimed the women's 100 fly (59.86). Hacioglu added another men's win in the 100 breaststroke (56.86) and the 200 breaststroke (2:07.81).
