Cardinals honored with 12 GLIAC awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer season ended Friday in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The league announced its postseason awards Saturday, with SVSU stacking up 12 honors.

The GLIAC named Danny Barlow the Offensive Player of the Year, Robbie Baker the Defensive Player of the Year, Mason Maziasz Goalkeeper of the Year, and Head Coach Louis Barrow the Coach of the Year.

In his first season with the Cardinals after transferring from the University of Denver, Barlow scored a team-high 10 goals, the best in the GLIAC. Barlow also added three assists and a team-high 36 shots, starting all nine games for the Cardinals.  

Baker helped lead the Cardinals to a GLIAC regular-season title, as the SVSU defense allowed just seven goals in nine games. Baker added a goal in a crucial early-season win over the University of Wisconsin Parkside.

Maziasz allowed just seven goals in net this season for the Cardinals, which led the GLIAC. He started all nine games, recorded four shutouts, and finished with 16 saves.

Barrow led the Cardinals to a perfect regular season, winning the program's fifth GLIAC championship. Through two seasons as the head coach for SVSU, Barrow has an overall record of 21-7-1 and 17-4-0 in the GLIAC.
