UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team opened the 2021 spring season with a dominant performance on the road against Northern Michigan University on Sunday in Marquette, Mich.
The Cardinals topped the Wildcats 4-0 and for his effort, SVSU senior goalkeeper Mason Maziasz has been named the season's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
The Troy, Mich., native got the start in net for SVSU, making four saves and earning the shutout.
Maziasz is looking to follow up a tremendous season in 2019 that saw him post a record of 11-4-1 with four shutouts and allowing 1.33 goals per game.
The Cardinals remain on the road to take on reigning GLIAC champion, the University of Wisconsin Parkside at 1 pm Sunday in Kenosha, Wis.
