Fourth-Ranked Cardinals Remain Unbeaten With 1-0 Victory at Marygrove

DETROIT - The nationally fourth-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team kept its unbeaten record in-tact for the 2014 season after a 1-0 road victory at Marygrove College on Sunday (9/14) in non-conference action.

The Cardinals improve to 3-0-1 overall on the season while the Mustangs are now 0-5-0 for 2014.

Senior Philip Strachan got SVSU on the board with his first goal of the seaon just before the end of the first half, as he tapped the ball in past the keeper to give the Cards a 1-0 advantage with just 49 ticks left on the clock.  It was Strachan's first-career goal in an SVSU uniform.

Saginaw Valley was out-shot in the first frame by a count of 6-4, but one of those four shots put the Cards ahead.

The second half saw the Mustangs hold the advantage in shots once more, as they had seven compared to five for SVSU.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexandre Bouillennec was solid in goal once more for the Cardinals though, as he stopped all five shots on goal in the match and improved to 3-0-1 on the season.  The SVSU defense has not allowed a single goal all season in four matches.

The Cards return to action this upcoming weekend on the road in Ohio with a pair of GLIAC matches at Walsh (9/19) and Malone (9/21).  The contest at Walsh is set to begin at 7:00 pm while the game at Malone is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
