TIFFIN, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team competed in the Kyle Ryman Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Mohawk Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio. The Cardinals placed eighth out of 13 teams with a three-round total of 892 (+28), moving up one spot in the standings after shooting just five-over-par in Tuesday's final round.
Evan Klein (Guelph, Ontario / Bishop Macdonell HS) led the way for SVSU with back-to-back rounds of 72 (E) and a 73 (+1) in the final round. He recorded 10 birdies across the tournament and tied for 16th out of 75 golfers with a total score of 217 (+1).
Garrett Morrison (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing HS) improved in each round, carding scores of 79 (+7), 73 (+1), and 71 (-1) – the only under-par round for the Cardinals. Morrison was also the only SVSU golfer to record two eagles, both on par-five holes: No. 11 in the second round and No. 4 in the third. He tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 223 (+7).
AJ Liguori (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing HS), Tony Spicuzza (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS), and Alex McCarthy (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central HS) rounded out the team lineup. Liguori shot 225 (+9) with rounds of 76 (+4), 76 (+4), and 73 (+1). Spicuzza posted scores of 78 (+6), 73 (+1), and 77 (+5) for a total of 228 (+12). McCarthy contributed in the final round, following two 83s (+11) with a 76 (+4) to finish at 242 (+26).
Competing individually, Dominik Dostal (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills HS) tied for 32nd overall with a total of 226 (+10), shooting 76 (+4), 76 (+4), and 74 (+2).
Up Next: The Cardinals conclude their fall season at the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational hosted by the University of Findlay. The event will take place Monday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.
