Men’s Golf Ties for Ninth at the Midwest/Central Regional Preview

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team competed in the Midwest/Central Regional Preview hosted by Ferris State University at Katke Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday. Play was halted during the second round on Monday due to darkness and resumed Tuesday morning.

The Cardinals' lineup of Evan Klein (Guelph, Ontario / Bishop Macdonnell HS), AJ Liguori (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing HS), Garrett Morrison (Flushing, Mich. / Flushing HS), Dominik Dostal (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills HS), and Tony Spicuzza (Grandville, Mich. / Grandville HS) tied for ninth place out of 19 teams with a three-round total of 897 (+45).

Klein led the way for SVSU, finishing tied for 14th with rounds of 73 (+2), 76 (+5), and 72 (+1) for a total of 221 (+8). He capped off his final round with the team's lone eagle, playing the 548-yard par-five 15th hole in three shots.

In his debut tournament for the Cardinals, Liguori tied for 23rd out of 106 golfers. He carded rounds of 74 (+3), 77 (+6), and 72 (+1) for a total of 223 (+10).

Spicuzza followed with a 228 (+15) after rounds of 75 (+4), 72 (+1), and 81 (+10). His second round featured four birdies, matching the team-high for a single round alongside Klein (once) and Morrison (twice).

Morrison and Dostal rounded out the scoring with improvements from last week's tournament. Morrison was steady across three rounds, posting 76 (+5), 76 (+5), and 77 (+6) for a total of 229 (+16). Dostal recorded rounds of 74 (+3), 81 (+10), and 79 (+8) for a 234 (+21).

Up Next: The Cardinals travel to the UMSL Men's Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The tournament will be played at Rock Hollow Golf Course in Peru, Ind., on Monday, Sept. 29, and Tuesday, Sept. 30.
