DEARBORN, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program sent nine golfers to compete in the Motor City Meltdown, hosted by Wayne State University on Monday. The Cardinals played two rounds at the TPC of Michigan, with the SVSU A team finishing fourth and the B team placing ninth, recording final scores of 604 and 664, respectively.
Jiseung Choi led the way for Saginaw Valley, tying for eighth place out of 43 golfers. He opened with an impressive 70 (-2), carding eight birdies, before shooting a 79 (+7) in the second round for a total score of 149 (+5). Close behind were Evan Klein, Shea Harmeson, and Thomas Keyte. Klein finished 14th with rounds of 71 (-1) and 80 (+8), totaling 151 (+7). Harmeson and Keyte tied for 15th, each recording a total score of 152 (+8). Harmeson shot 75 (+3) and 77 (+5), while Keyte posted back-to-back rounds of 76 (+4). Joey Per rounded out the A team with rounds of 83 (+11) and 81 (+9), finishing with a total of 164 (+20).
Team B was led by Tony Spicuzza, who tied for 25th after shooting 77 (+5) and 82 (+10), totaling 159 (+15). Dominic DeLaura followed with rounds of 75 (+3) and 87 (+15) for a total of 162 (+18). Michael Zanoni and Ben Yono completed the B team's scoring with totals of 169 (+25) and 174 (+30), respectively. Zanoni carded rounds of 91 (+19) and 78 (+6), while Yono posted a pair of 87s (+15). Notably, Yono eagled the par-five third hole — the only eagle by a Cardinal and one of just five recorded in the entire tournament.
