SVSU 16th Following Second Day at National Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team shaved six strokes off its first round score but dropped a spot in the standings after shooting a 306 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships.  The mark was six strokes better than the 312 on day one, but the Cardinals dropped from tied for 15th to tied for 16th in the event's standings.

Saginaw Valley is tied with Simon Fraser University (312-306) and Central Oklahoma (316-302), which both join the Cards with the 618 total.  Nova Southeastern leads the tournament with a total score of 582.

Carter Marsh had the low round on the day for SV, improving 10 strokes from day one to card a two-over 73.  He currently sits tied for 75th place with a 156 total (+14).

Micah Skidmore shot a 75 for the second round.  He sits as the lowest overall for SV in a tie for 57th with a total score of 154 (+12).

Adam Hansen finished with a 76 for the second 18 holes.  Hansen now stands tied for 84th with a 158 two-day total (+16).

Eric Gandy and Wyatt Drost each shot 82 on Tuesday in their second rounds.  Gandy is tied for 75th with Marsh (156) and Drost is in a tie for 89th with a total of 159 (+17).

Saginaw Valley will begin its third round at 8:25 am and tee-off until 9:05 am.  It will begin the day 18 strokes behind the 8th place cut-off for the quarterfinal match play.
