SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team leads after Day #1 of the GLIAC North Invitational. The tournament is being played at HawksHead Links, a par-72, 7,039 yard layout for the weekend.
The Cardinals finished the day with a 286 (-2) and lead Grand Valley State by two strokes heading into the final day of competition. SVSU had three out of four golfers who scored shoot under par.
Junior Carter Marsh (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS) fired a 69 (-3) in the first round to tie for the low round of the day. He sits tied with Tiffin's Luke Schlicher for the overall tournament lead.
Chris Weir, a junior from Port Huron, carded a two-under 70 in his round one effort, placing him in a tie for third place overall in the event.
Senior Adam Hansen (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) also shot in red figures for Saginaw Valley, shooting a 71 (-1). Hansen is in a tie for seventh place in the tournament.
Junior Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) had the last round that counted towards SVSU's score, as he shot a +4 76 in the opening round.
The final round of the tournament that consists of all GLIAC Schools that sponsor men's golf will commence Sunday.
