BRIMLEY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team opened its 2013-14 season over the weekend at the Lake Superior State University Invitational, which was played at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, Michigan.

After a rough first day that saw the Cardinals shoot a 315 (+27), SVSU responded on day #2 with a four-under par and tournament-best round for a team, 284.  Their final score of 599 (+23) was good enough for a third place finish, just four strokes behind tournament winner Wayne State (+19).

Tiffin finished runner-up in the event, ending the tourney with a +21 finish (597).

Leading the way for the Cards on the weekend was junior Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.), who shot rounds of 77-71 to finish in a fourth-place tie with an overall score of 148 (+4).

Senior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) and junior Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix HS) both shot scores of 150 (+6) for the event, finishing tied for ninth place.  Gandy carded a tournament-best round of 69 (-3) in his second round, as he and Skidmore both shot sub-par second rounds.

Carter Marsh (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS) also finished in the top-20 for the Cardinals, tying for 18th place with rounds of 79-73 (152, +8).

Saginaw Valley is in action again this upcoming weekend, as it hosts the Cardinal Fall Invitational Saturday (9/14) and Sunday (9/15).
