BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University freshman Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) was named the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf "Freshman of the Year" and also earned First-Team All-GLIAC honors.
Skidmore, a redshirt freshman for the SVSU golf team, excelled in his first season of collegiate competition as he has been the top finisher for the Cardinals in nine of 10 events this season. He has recorded a 74.2 stroke average in the 2011-12 season, including seven rounds of even-par or better.
Micah finished in the top-20 eight times, including three tournaments inside the top five with his best coming at the The Jewell where he posted back-to-back rounds of one-under-par 71 to finish runner-up, one shot behind the medalist.
Skidmore becomes the sixth SVSU golfer to be named to the All-GLIAC First-Team since the conference started the designation in 2000. Micah is also the first Cardinal golfer to be selected 'Freshman of the Year.'
Skidmore will travel to Jefferson City Country Club in Jefferson City, Missouri to participate in the Midwest/South Central Regional which is set for May 7-9 hosted by Lincoln University (Missouri).
