BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley
State University men’s golf team finished in a tie for second
place at the Matt Pinter Invitational. The event was hosted at
Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. SVSU shot a three-round
total of 873 (+33) to draw-even with Wayne State University in the
event. Host Ferris State University claimed the tournament,
shooting a two-over-par 842 to win by 31 strokes.
Senior Rob Ronk (Clarkston, Mich.) paced the Cardinals with a
54-hole runner-up total of 211 (+1), which was one stroke behind
tournament medalist Eric Lilleboe of Ferris State. Nate Kelly
(Suttons Bay, Mich.) was next on the scoreboard for SVSU, finishing
at +8 for the event and in 13th place overall.
This weekend’s tournament was the Cardinals’ final
tune-up before traveling to Marquette, Mich. for the GLIAC
Men’s Golf Championship (Oct. 3-5).
