MIDLAND, Mich. – The SVSU men’s
golf team was in action this past weekend, traveling to Midland to
compete in the Northwood University Invite.
The Cardinals were unable to get into a groove on either day of
the tournament and came home with a sixth place finish after
shooting a 626, 50 strokes over-par. Ferris State finished in first
with a 593, 17 strokes over-par and 12 strokes ahead of second
place, Wayne State. Third place went to Grand Valley who shot a 30
over-par 606, and Ashland came in fourth with a score of 610, 34
strokes over-par.
After shooting a 318 on Friday, the Cardinals found themselves in
sixth place, eight strokes behind Ashland. Senior Kasey Hocquard
(Cheboygan, Mich.) and red-shirt freshman Troy Quenneville
(Windsor, Canada) led the team on the day and both shot 78. Wayne
State’s Bubba Wouters was the overall leader on the day,
shooting a one-under 71. The Cardinals improved their score by 10
strokes on Saturday, shooting a 308, but were unable to move out of
sixth place. SVSU was once again led by Hocquard, who shot a three
over 75. Three golfers shot 72 and tied for the day’s best
score.
Hocquard was the overall leader for the Cardinals and finished
tied for 15th with a 9 over par 153. Troy Quenneville was two
strokes behind him and tied for 19th with a score of 155. Junior
Jonathan Lange (Midland, Mich.) tied for 31st with a 158, 14
strokes over par. Sophomore Mike Horn (Clarkston, Mich.) shot a 161
and finished tied for 42nd and Junior Rob Ronk finished tied for
44th with a 162.
The Cardinal Golf team will not be in action again until May 4th
when they travel to Grand Valley to compete in the NCAA DII Super
Regional.
