Saginaw Valley State University senior defensive back Nick Whiteside was named to the Second Team Defense of the D2Football.com Elite 100 which was announced by the publication on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Whiteside finished the season with 30 tackles, two for loss, and two interceptions as he helped lead the Cardinals to the top of the team charts in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with 18 interceptions. The SVSU defensive unit was second in tackles per game with 72 and third-best in points allowed (19.0), yards per game (323.3), and rush yards per game (97.5). The Cliff Harris Finalist adds this accomplishment to his growing season accolades, including first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and first-team All-GLIAC defense.

The D2Football.com Elite 100 was selected with input from coaches and scouts from around the country and has been awarded since its inception in 2000.

Whiteside was one of seven players from the GLIAC that made the Elite 100 distinction. The Auburn Hills, Michigan native was on the D2Football.com Elite 100 Squad a year ago.
