UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football team will open its 2013 season with a national power. The Cardinals will travel to play Northwest Missouri State University for a game tentatively scheduled for Aug. 31, 2013.
Northwest Missouri State is a perennial Division II football power having won NCAA National Championships in 1999 and 2002. The Bearcats have also finished runner-up on four other occasions. Northwest Missouri State qualified for the NCAA postseason this year falling in the regional final to Pittsburg State. The Bearcats are ranked no. 10 in the most recent AFCA Top 25 Poll and are a member of the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
SVSU previously announced that its 2012 schedule will begin with a home contest against another leading Division II program, Valdosta State University.
