Lucas Mead Named D2 Baseball Preseason All-American

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University baseball's junior outfielder Lucas Mead (Gladwin, Mich. / Gladwin HS) was named a D2 Baseball Second Team All-American Monday afternoon.

Mead is coming off a breakout sophomore year where he batted .420 with 76 hits, 10 doubles, six triples, and four home runs. The Gladwin, Michigan native also scored 38 runs and drove in 45 RBI as a key piece in the heart of the lineup for the Cardinals. Mead walked 31 times and was hit by two pitches to earn a .513 on-base percentage. He slugged .608 as well for an OPS of 1.121.

For his performance in 2025, Mead earned First Team All-GLIAC and First Team D2CCA Al-Midwest Region selections. He finished first in the GLIAC in on-base percentage, second in batting average, third in slugging percentage, and first in OPS. Across all of DII, Mead ranked 11th in triples, 18th in batting average, and 27th in on-base percentage.

2025 brought more history and accolades for Mead as he won GLIAC Player of the Week twice and on March 29 he hit for the cycle against William Jewell. He went 5-for-5 in the game with two doubles and a walk.

Saginaw Valley baseball starts the 2026 season on the road in Xenia, Ohio. They play back-to-back doubleheaders on Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14 playing Cedarville and Lewis once each day. The Cardinals have a four-game weekend against Lake Erie before travelling to Maryville and Florida for their spring trip. GLIAC play starts on Friday, March 20 at Purdue Northwest and SVSU is at home for the first time when they host Parkside on Friday, March 27.
