University Center, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought game against #6 Grand Valley State on Sunday, 2-0. The Cardinals (5-3-0, 3-1-0) were outshot by the Lakers (5-1-2, 3-0-1), 13-5, 6-0 on goal.
GVSU scored both of their goals early in the first half. The first came in the eighth minute, and it was followed up with a second goal just 1:57 later to put the Lakers up 2-0. The Cardinals were able to apply pressure throughout the first half, getting the next two shots of the game from
Melanie Kolnitys (Midland, Mich., H. H. Dow HS) and
Grace Battershell (Rochester Hills, Mich., Adams HS).Three corner kicks in the final ten minutes of the first half kept the pressure on for SVSU, but they still trailed by two entering the break.
Saginaw Valley goalkeeper,
Ava Wilberding (Grand Rapids, Mich., Forest Hills Central HS), recorded three saves in the second half to bring her total on the day to four. The SVSU defense did not allow a goal in the second half.

SVSU and the Lakers each had six corner kicks, 11 fouls, and one yellow card.
UP NEXT: Saginaw Valley State will return to Braddock Field for two games next week. The first is on Friday, September 25, at 1:00 PMagainst Michigan Tech, followed by another 1:00 PM match against Northern Michigan on Sunday, September 27.
