UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University lacrosse team completed the Inaugural season at home with a game against Grand Valley State. The Cardinals (0-13, 0-8 GLIAC) fell to the Lakers (13-3, 8-0 GLIAC) 23-1 in the contest.
GVSU scored 20 goals through the first three quarters before Annelle Dykema prevented the shutout with a man-up, free-position goal to open the fourth quarter. It was Dykema's seventh goal of the season to bring her total points to eight on the year.
Sarah Veale had the first opportunity for the Cardinals in the first quarter on a free position attempt, but her shot went high. Gabby Parker put one on frame at the 6:06 mark of the opening quarter, but it was saved by Laker goalie Kylyn Cater (W, 12-3). Parker had the other scoring opportunity for SVSU in the fourth quarter but was thwarted by Sarah Krause in the net.
Cardinal goalkeeper Mikailah Stone (L, 0-12) had a good showing as she made five saves in the second quarter to hold Grand Valley to only three goals in the final 15 minutes of the half. Stone made four saves in the fourth to bring her total to 13 stops.
Dykema scored the lone goal for SVSU while adding a ground ball, draw control, and a caused turnover to her stats. Stone led with 11 ground balls and two caused turnovers, along with her 13 saves. Lainey Lasky had three ground balls. Veale led the team with three draw controls while also compiling two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Saginaw Valley State Cardinal lacrosse team concludes the inaugural season with freshman Gabby Parker leading the team in scoring with 22 points (21 goals, 1 assist). Lasky totaled nine points (3 goals, 6 assists), and senior Sarah Veale also totaled nine points (8 goals, 1 assist) in her only season of lacrosse. Stone finished the season with 134 saves and led the team with 85 ground balls.
