UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University softball head coach Ryan Schalk announced the 2025 recruiting class for the program. The Cardinals have added three new members to debut in the Spring of 2026.
The new additions are Molly Charboneau from Holly High School, Madison Wyckoff from Zeeland West High School, and Makenzie Cammenga from Hudsonville Unity Christian High School.
Charboneau holds the record at Holly HS for stolen bases in a season with 49 and led the team with hits and batting average last season.
"Molly is a versatile lefty hitter that has speed and power potential," said SVSU head coach Ryan Schalk. "She will fit right in with her ability to play several positions and be a menace on the bases."
Charboneau said, "I chose SVSU because the second I stepped on campus everything already felt familiar, it felt like I had been there for years by the way I was treated and how I felt so comfortable. It's such a great environment and everyone is so welcoming I just knew I would love it there."
Wyckoff earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior at Zeeland West. She was an honorable mention as a sophomore before adding and all-district recognition as a junior. She was named to the Holland Sentinel second team as a sophomore and first team during her junior campaign.
"Madison is another extremely athletic and versatile player with speed and power. She has the ability to play several positions and great knowledge of the game," stated Schalk.
"I chose SVSU because I fell in love with the campus and all of the people there," said Wyckoff. "It feels like another home, and it was a great atmosphere. I immediately wanted to be part of the program!"
Cammenga helped the Hudsonville Unity Christian High School team make the State Quarterfinals for three straight seasons (2022, 2023, and 2024). She holds her high school's record for pitching wins in a season and was named an All-State honorable mention in 2023. She added a first-team all-conference, all-district, and all-region awards in both 2023 and 2024.
"Makenzie is an extremely athletic and strong player. As a pitcher, she throws as hard or harder than anyone in our league," lauded Schalk. "Once she acclimates herself to this level and how to get hitters out, she is going to be tough to face."
Cammenga said, "I chose SVSU because I really connected with the coaches, and the team made me feel at home. The campus is beautiful and I feel like I belong there."
The SVSU softball team opens the 2025 season on Friday, February 21 with a trip to Georgia to face Georgia College in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
