UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University Interim Associate Director of Athletics Brad Barlog announced the hiring of two new staff members, Justin Tobin and Joshua Eddy. Both join the Sports Medicine department with the title of Assistant Athletic Trainer.
"The hiring of Justin Tobin and Joshua Eddy is a great day for both our sports medicine department and our athletics department as a whole," said Barlog. "Both bring a high level of energy and passion to helping our student-athletes prevent and care for injuries so they can be back playing and competing at a high level. There is no doubt in my mind that both will add a high level of treatment and care for our student-athletes, and I am so excited to watch them soar in their positions. This also dramatically helps our staffing in our sports medicine department and coverage for our sports teams. [I am] excited to see them both in action!"
Tobin joins SVSU after spending the last year at NAIA member Siena Heights University as an Athletic Training Intern. He worked directly with the men's and women's soccer teams, softball, track and field, men's and women's basketball, women's wrestling, and men's lacrosse teams while with the Saints. Tobin also filled the role of assistant women's soccer coach at his alma mater, Adrian College, during the 2022 Fall season. Tobin holds credentials with the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT) and is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) where he is licensed by the state of Michigan.
"I am super excited for the opportunity to work for Saginaw Valley State University," stated Tobin. "I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes and coaches in SVSU's amazing facilities."
Eddy moves to Saginaw Valley from William Penn University where he served as an athletic trainer with football, men's and women's track and field, and shotgun sports. He was also an adjunct faculty member where he taught Injury Prevention and Care of Sports Injuries. Prior to William Penn, Eddy was at St. Bonaventure as a certified athletic training intern where he worked with softball and men's/women's swimming and diving. Eddy earned his bachelor's from Central Michigan University and a master's from California University of Pennsylvania. He holds licenses in the states of Michigan and Iowa and has a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
"Growing up in southwest Michigan and attending Central Michigan University, I'm excited to be able to have the opportunity to come back home and bring the experience I've gained to help the athletes of SVSU stay healthy and succeed at the next level," said Eddy. "I'm excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Cardinal family and I look forward to working with coaches and administration to help SVSU athletes be the best they can be."
