UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University has announced the appointment of Angela Pohl as interim director of Athletics. Pohl assumed the senior leadership position on August 14. 

Pohl first came to SVSU in August of 2001 to serve as the compliance and academic services coordinator. She has held a variety of administrative positions in the athletics department, including facility and event management, marketing, community engagement, sport administration, and business operations. 

"I appreciate Angela Pohl's dedication to SVSU Athletics, and she has my full support as she takes on her added responsibilities," said Donald Bachand, SVSU President.  

"I'm honored and excited to be asked by President Bachand to serve as the interim athletic director," Pohl said. "For the past 21 years, I have been preparing for this opportunity.  I am committed to building and enhancing relationships with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, alumni, and community members in my new role."  

Pohl has recently concluded her six-year term as a member of the NCAA DII Baseball Committee and is on the advisory board for the Business of Small College Athletics. Previously, Pohl chaired the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee and was a member of the Midwest Region Volleyball Ranking Committee. Pohl was also an SVSU representative and graduate of the 2021 Great Lakes Bay Regional Leadership Institute. 

Pohl completed a master's degree in guidance and counseling in the area of student affairs from Clemson University, where she also earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education. 

In addition to Pohl, two other athletic department employees have been appointed to interim positions. Michael Pierce, associate athletic director for compliance and academic services, has been appointed as the interim senior associate athletic director. Bradley Barlog, assistant athletic director for facilities and events, has been appointed as the interim associate athletic director.
