The SVSU Softball team had a hot start to the 2020 season, beginning the spring with a 16-2 overall record after capping-off their spring trip with an 11-1 mark in Florida. The 16-2 record through the first 18 games is the program's best since the 2010 season when the Cardinals were 21-2 through 23 games.

Saginaw Valley jumped into the NFCA Division II Top 25 rankings after its trip, earning a No. 22 national ranking. The Cardinals defeated No. 12 Saint Anselm on their Florida trip and closed things out with a victory over then No. 1 Augustana on the final day of competition. 

Eight different Cardinals were hitting over .300 on the season, led by sophomore Sarah Gersch's average of .441 that ranks her fifth in the GLIAC. Fellow sophomore Jackie Popko led the way with a team-high seven home runs and 21 RBI. Those two figures ranked her second in the league. Freshman pitcher Emily Depew ran out to a perfect 7-0 record in the circle, which leads the GLIAC. She is ranked fifth in the league with a 1.47 ERA and fourth with 34 strikeouts.
