KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Cardinal Softball team hit the road on Tuesday (Apr. 2) for a league doubleheader in Wisconsin against Parkside. Saginaw Valley was impressive on both ends of the doubleheader, taking the opener by a 14-2 score before claiming a 13-1 win in five innings in the nightcap.
Game 1
Jackie Popko drove-in three runs in the top of the 2nd and Julia Salisbury and Alex Roob added an RBI hit each in the 3rd, making the score 5-0 in the visitors' favor.
After the Rangers scored their first run in the home half of the 3rd, Salisbury and Becky Corbett knocked-in a run-apiece in the 4th to push the lead to 7-1. Another single run in the top of the 5th made the score 8-1 after Aubree Mouthaan had an RBI single.
The 7th inning was a big one for the Cardinals, as SVSU went for six runs in exending the lead out to 14-1. Blasia Moyler, Mouthaan, Savannah Oen and Corbett all had an RBI while Alicia Kolacki had a two-RBI single for the final runs.
Parkside scored one run in the home half, putting the game at its 14-2 final count.
Popko had three hits with a double and three RBI for the Cards. Kolacki went 2-2 with a double and pair of RBI. Mouthaan added two hits with two runs driven-in. Salisbury was 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Corbett finished 2-3 with two RBI and two runs. Alexis Cerven added two hits, as did Alex Roob with an RBI. Moyler had a multi-hit gme as well with a double. Corbett stole two bases while Roob and Popko added a steal.
Hannah Atwell (1-1) worked the complete game in the circle, allowing two runs on four hits, striking-out one batter and walking two.
Game 2
Saginaw Valley went for a pair in the top of the 2nd in RBI base knocks from Roob and Corbett, making the score 2-0 after the game's first scoring.
The big blow came in the top of the 4th, when the Cardinals went for 11 runs to push the lead out to 13-0. Popko, Kolacki, Moyler, Mouthaan, Room, Corbett and Shelby Misiak all drove-in runs in the inning, including Popko's first career home run.
A single run in the bottom of the 5th would put the Rangers on the board but that is all they would score, giving us a final tally of 13-1.
Lexie McAfee (1-0) worked 4.0 innings, allowing just four hits with two walks and three strikeouts for the victory.
Popko went 2-2 with a run, home run, walk and three RBI. Corbett had two hits with a pair of runs and three RBI. Misiak had a double and two runs driven-in. Kolacki had a pair of hits with double and RBI. Moyler and Mouthaan had a hit and RBI, while Meagan VerVeacke added two hits. Roob had a hit and two RBI as well, scoring twice.

The Cardinals return home for a Thursday (Apr. 4) matchup with league-leading Grand Valley State. The GLIAC twinbill will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at the SVSU Softball Complex.
