INDIANAPOLIS --  Division II announced today 19 regular-season football games that will be showcased on ESPN3 or NCAA social media as part of a new media agreement intended to promote the division on several platforms throughout the academic year. 

The 2018 Axe Bowl, featuring rivals Saginaw Valley State University and Northwood University, will be featured nationally. The announcement was made today (Aug. 23) as part of the NCAA Division II Showcase Series of football games. 

The annual contest, featuring the Cardinals and Timberwolves, will take place at Northwood's Hantz Stadium in Midland, Michigan on Saturday, November 3 at 1:05 p.m. It's the 44th annual meeting in the rivalry series between the programs. The game will be available nationally on the ESPN3 streaming platform. 

"We are very excited to be able to showcase a rivalry game like the Axe Bowl for a national audience," said Cardinal head coach Jim Collins, who enters his 11th season patrolling the sidelines at SVSU. "It is a great opportunity for all of our fans across the country to tune-in and see what this year's Cardinal Football team is all about." 

The Cardinals open the 2018 regular season this upcoming Thursday (Aug. 30) at home against Alderson Broaddus University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Wickes Stadium. Click here to purchase 2018 tickets online.
