SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Softball team has been selected to advance and compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament this upcoming weekend.
The Cardinals earned the No. 7 seed in the region and will travel to take on No. 2 seed University of Illinios-Springfield on Thursday (May 10) at 2:30 p.m. eastern time.
SVSU met the Prairie Stars twice this season, splitting a doubleheader on March 2 in Springfield. The Cardinals dropped the opener that day 6-1 before bouncing back for a nice 7-1 victory in the nightcap.
Saginaw Valley is coming off a strong performance at the 2018 GLIAC Tournament, where the Cardinals fell in the consolation bracket final after a Saturday run. This NCAA postseason appearacnce is the second straight for SVSU, as SV advanced to the finals of the 2017 Midwest Region #2 tournament in Evansville, Indiana.
