KALAMAZOO -- The SVSU Swimming & Diving teams had their second meet of the 2018-19 season, traveling to play at Kalamazoo College on Saturday (Oct. 20) afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Cardinal women defeated the Hornets by a score of 208-88 while the men posted a 127.5-68.5 victory.
Women
- Amanda Thielen, Lydia Mattar, Alexa Bloom and Taylor Grashuis placed 1st in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.89.
- In the 1,000 freestyle, Alexandra Davis finished 1st with a mark of 10:55.00 while Alicia Sobell was 2nd with her time of 11:23.81. The same duo finished 1-2 in the 500 free with times of 5:22.37 and 5:36.44, respectively.
- Sydney Shipps led a trio of three Cards to finish top-3 in the 200 free, touching the board in a time of 1:57.94. Grashuis was 2nd with a 1:59.38 and Emma Cornell was 3rd with a 2:01.82. Shipps added a 1st place showing in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.91 with Thielen right behind in 2nd at 2:10.96.
- Thielen finished 1st in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.34 while teammate Erin McDowell was 2nd right behind, turning in a time of 1:00.57.
- Mattar took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:08.03 and the 200 breaststroke with a 2:27.05.
- Kimble Darbee had the best finish for the Cardinals in the 200 butterfly with her time of 2:18.27. She was 2nd in the 200 breast with a mark of 2:38.62.
- Elizabeth Caird finished 2nd in the 1 meter dive event with her score of 234.45 points. She was 2nd in the 3 meter dive as well, posting a score of 229.79 points.
- Cornell and Grashuis finished 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, turning in times of 55:41 and 55:85 seconds, respectively.
- Bloom and Hailey Steward finished 1st and 2nd in the 50 free with times of 24.94 and 25.78 seconds. Bloom was 1st in the 100 butterfly with a 59.23 second time while Sarah Thompson was 2nd with a mark of 1:01.72.
- The 200 IM saw the top three spots go to SVSU, as Mattar was 1st (2:15.87), Cornell was 2nd (2:16.11) and Darbee was 3rd (2:16.96).
- Grashuis, Aaryn Jewell, Shipps and Bloom took 1st in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.80.
Men
- The Cardinals got a 1st place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.64 from Tyler Overmyer, Sanders Modglin, Dylan Kopacki and Drew Hinckley.
- Pedro Rezende finished 1st in the 1,000 freestyle with a mark of 9:59.72 while Mason Hooker was 2nd with a time of 10:12.62. Rezende was 1st in the 500 free (4:50.33) while Hooker was 2nd (4:50.72) and Jayden Hutchinson was 3rd (4:54.61).
- The 200 free on the men's side had three SVSU athletes in the top-3 as well, with Peter Lin 1st in a time of 1:47.90. Frederich Schulz was 2nd with a 1:49.99 while Zachary Rychel was 3rd with a 1:50.61.
- Overmyer was 2nd in the 100 back with a time of 55.99 while Dalton Pokley was 3rd with his 56.43 second time.
- Modglin claimed 1st place in the 100 breast after turning in a time of 1:01.67.
- SVSU had the top-three spots in the 200 fly, as Hutchinson was 1st with a 1:58.17, Connor Henning 2nd with a 1:59.58 and Michael Spears was 3rd with his 2:03.96. Henning finished 2nd in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.01.
- Justin Ott won the 1 meter dive event with his score of 243.00 points.
- Cameron Whitfield and Ryan Langdon finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 free, posting marks of 50.04 and 50.29 seconds.
- Kopacki finished in first place in the 50 free with a time of 22.48 seconds.
- In the 200 breast, Jared Caudill took 1st with a mark of 2:20.12 while Matthew VanCoppenolle was 2nd with a 2:29.96.
- Kopacki was 1st in the 100 fly (53.17) while Spears (53.82) finished 2nd and Pokley was 3rd in the event with a 54.12 second mark.
- Lin was 1st in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:01.89.
- Modglin, Whitfield, Hinckley and Kopacki took 1st in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.71.

The Cardinals travel to Marquette, Michigan on November 3 to face GLIAC foes Northern Michigan and Grand Valley State. The first event is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
