UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Saginaw Valley State University head swimming & diving coach Bruce Zimmerman has announced the addition of Shelby Bartlett as the program's new diving coach. 

Bartlett joins the SVSU Swimming and diving staff at the start of the 2017-2018 swimming and diving season after serving as the assistant diving coach for Razorback Diving club in Fayetteville Arkansas, where she coached from 2014-2016. 

During her time in Fayetteville, she coached divers to the junior regional and zone meets during the club seasons. During the 2016 high school season, she coached six of the top eight girls. She also coached three athletes who earned "Diver of the Year" honors while in Fayetteville. 

Bartlett has also coached at Fishers Diving Club, where she has helped develop several junior national qualifiers. 

In 2016, Bartlett graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors in Recreation and Sport Management. While at Arkansas, she was a four-year member of the swimming and diving team. 

Bartlett originally comes from Indianapolis, where she was born and raised. 

Zimmerman shed his thoughts on the newest member of the SVSU Swim & Dive staff...

"SVSU Swimming & Diving is very excited to be bringing Shelby Bartlett on board as our new diving coach. As a diving competitor, Shelby has competed at the highest levels of club, high school and collegiate competition. This experience has given her a great understanding of what it takes to compete on the collegiate national stage. Shelby's goals, philosophies and expectations match those of SVSU Swimming & Diving, and I am confident that she will help the program improve our standings in the GLIAC and at the NCAA Championships!"

The young programs are on the rise for both the women and the men. The women improved 12 spots in their national finish, coming in at No. 25 after their performance at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships.
