LAKELAND, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team won its fourth match in as many days, defeating Cornerstone University 9-0 Wednesday, March 9 at the Beerman Family Tennis Center in Lakeland, Florida.
"After a long day on the courts during our doubleheader yesterday, it was apparenttoday that our off-season training has paid off," said Jenn Boehm, head coach. "Our team looked sharp and implemented a variety of strategies to dictate points and develop each aspect of their game."
Erin Doud and Danielle Slonac teamed up at no. 1 doubles for the Cardinals, winning 8-2. Ana Pico Garcia and Shea Donahue notched an 8-0 win at no. 2 doubles, and Izabella Ismailova and Mikayla Kazdan combined to win 8-4 at no. 3 doubles.
SVSU swept singles, as well. Ismailova won 6-2, 6-0 at no. 1 singles. Donahue played no. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Doud defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at no. 3 singles. Abby Shonk and Kazdan each won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 4 and no. 6 singles, respectively. Slonac picked up her no. 5 singles point by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
The Cardinals are now 4-1 on their spring trip. They return to action Thursday, March 10 against regional opponent Cedarville University.
