UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - This past Thursday (Dec. 1), donors to the Dawn Hoeg Memorial Basketball Scholarship were invited to attend a bronze plaque unveiling and dedication in her honor, just prior to the first home basketball doubleheader of the 2016-17 season. 

Dawn was a member and scholarship student-athlete on the SVSU women's basketball team in the late 70's and graduated in 1980. She became intimately reacquainted with SVSU Athletics as a member of the Cardinal Cabaret Auction committee. Dawn also served on the Cardinal Advisory Board and volunteered for numerous athletic department community engagement events. She and her husband, Dennis, were members of the Cardinal Athletic Club and she was a true fan in every sense of the word. 

A single male and female basketball student-athlete will be the recipient of a scholarship to assist with the cost of pursuing a degree as a member of the basketball team, something Dawn herself was a recipient of. This endowment is an example of Dawn's generosity and her strong support of SVSU Athletics, which will continue throughout the years.  

This year, both the men's and women's basketball teams have warm-up shirts that display "#4DAWN" in remembrance of her spirit and impact. The bronze plaque that will be displayed will serve as a symbol to our current and future basketball players that Dawn's strength and competitive nature will always have a positive impact on their experience as a Cardinal student-athlete and member of the basketball team.
