Cardinals Advance to NCAA Division II Nationals After Performances at Midwest Regional Meet

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams posted solid performances at the 2016 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana at the Angel Mounds facility. The men's team posted a third place finish and will advance on to the Division II National Championships while the women had Allison Dorr qualify individually after her 15th place overall finish. The Cardinal women finished in 13th overall as a team.

The Cardinal men finished in the third slot with 110 total points, right behind Southern Indiana, which registered 99. Grand Valley claimed the regional title with a final tally of 45 points.

Nate Frasier was the top finisher for SVSU, posting a 12th place showing with a 30:56.70 time in the 10K event. Joey Southgate was next, finishing 17th with a mark of 31:03.86. Eddie Komph was the third finisher for the Cards, placing 21st with a showing of 31:08.16. Tristan Fackelman (28th) and Tom Goforth (32nd) rounded-out the scoring for the men with times of 31:21.76 and 31:28.25, respectively.

Clyde Anderson was 50th overall for the Cards, posting a time of 31:57.57, while teammate Parker Eisengruber was right behind in 51st with a mark of 31:58.08. 

Frasier, Southgate and Komph earned all-region honors after their performances. 

The SVSU women finished in 13th place overall with 314 points, finishing behind 12th place Michigan Tech. GVSU claimed the top spot in the women's race as well, finishing with 43 points.

Dorr was the top finisher for the ladies with her 15th place showing and time of 21:16.41 in the 6K event. She was named to the all-region team as well for her efforts. Taylor Stepanski finished 26th with a mark of 21:35.09. Christina Micale (80th), Sydney Kreger (95th) and Sophia Bradley (103rd) were the other scoring runners in the meet.

Domonique Adams also participated for the ladies, posting a 105th place showing with a time of 23:09.92. Alicia Tomlin competed as well, finishing in 138th place with her finish of 23:47.17. 

The 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships are set to take place on Saturday, November 19 in Saint Leo, Fla. It marks the first showing for the men in the national meet since the program's 20th place finish in 2009.
