Saginaw Valley State University Athletics mourns the passing of Eric Wynns, who died Monday, Aug. 10 from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident on I-75 in Genesee County's Mundy Township.
Wynns, a junior wide receiver from West Bloomfield, Michigan studying social work, enrolled at SVSU in 2013 and joined the football program in January 2015.
"Any time you lose a member of your family it is extremely difficult, and this will be hard on our Cardinal football family," said SVSU head football coach Jim Collins. "We at SVSU embrace a family culture that is felt throughout our program and the entire athletic department. Eric was a fine young man and a great teammate. He will be sorely missed."
"I have spoken with Eric's family and they are understandably devastated by this. Our deepest sympathy goes out to them, and our football program will do what we can to support them during this trying time."
The SVSU Counseling Center is offering grief counseling to student-athletes and all members of the campus community.
