SVSU Athletic Training Staff Works With Student Group on Concussion PSA

The Saginaw Valley State University Athletic Training staff recently worked with a group of students from the Bay Arenac Career Center whose task was to put together a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) competition.

Competing at the HOSA Regionals, Bridget Baker, Clayton Lange, Lydia Mogg and Dillon Oliver claimed a third place finish with their initial PSA that they put together, advancing their team to the state level of competition in Traverse City, Michigan.  For the state competition, the students contacted SVSU Head Athletic Trainer Jeremy Glaser and worked with three Cardinal football student-athletes for a new PSA.  The new PSA is directed at a target audience of adolescents who play or will play contact sports.  The goal is that the public will be more aware of concussions and they will eventually wear the appropriate equipment while playing sports, even if they don't think the gear is "cool."  Their tagline for the project is "Just Remember, Use your head to Prevent Concussions!"

Glaser spoke to the quality of the work the students did and praised them for putting forth the effort to bring concussion awareness to the forefront...

"It was a pleasure working with the HOSA students and their level of professionalism and knowledge of concussions really impressed me," stated Glaser.  "The group did an outstanding job in gathering important information and organizing it in an appropriate manner to make a 30-second informational video.  I wish them the best of luck this weekend at the state competition!"

The group's 30-second PSA can be viewed below...
