KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The SVSU women's tennis team battled hard in dropping an 8-1 decision to NCAA Division I Presbyterian College Wednesday, March 4 at Star Island resort in Kissimee, Fla.
"The overall match score does not reflect how competitive this match was," said head coach Jenn Boehm. "We played a quality opponent and had our chances to pick up a few more points, but I thought everyone really competed today."
The Cardinals won at no. 1 doubles, as Izabella Ismailova and Erin Doud prevailed over their opponents 8-7 (0). The other doubles matches were close, as well, with Meghan Woody and Lauren Sharp falling 8-6 at no. 2 doubles, and Abby Shonk and Danielle Slonac dropping their no. 3 doubles match 8-5.
In singles play, Ismailova lost at no. 1 singles in a third-set tiebreaker 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. At no. 2 singles, Woody dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision. At no. 3 singles, Doud lost 6-0, 6-2. Shea Donahue played no. 4 singles, losing her match 6-1, 6-2. Sharp fell 6-4, 6-4 at no. 5 singles, and at no. 6 singles, Shonk was defeated 6-0, 7-5.
The Cardinals conclude their spring trip tomorrow against Palm Beach Atlantic, ranked no. 32 in the nation in NCAA Division II.
