The Saginaw Valley State University football team plays host to rival Grand Valley State University on Saturday (11/15) afternoon at Wickes Stadium. Saturday's match-up will be the 44th all-time meeting between the schools with GVSU leading the all-time series, 32-11. The last meeting between the Cardinals and Lakers at Wickes Stadium was on November 10, 2012. SVSU put together a seven play, 95 yard drive in 53 seconds which was capped off by a game-winning 32 yard touchdown pass from Jon Jennings to Jeff Janis with nine seconds remaining to give the Cardinals a 55-52 victory.
Saginaw Valley enters the final game of the 2014 season looking to win their third straight game at Wickes Stadium. The Cardinals have been led offensively by wide receiver Bryan Fobbs. Fobbs has a team-high 47 receptions for 566 yards and six touchdowns this year. Linebacker Bryan Jones has led the defense with 98 total tackles, which is good for second in the conference. The defense as a whole is third in the conference with 21 sacks this season.
Grand Valley enters the game with a 5-5 overall record, and a 5-4 mark in the GLIAC. The Lakers are coming off a 42-7 victory over Tiffin last Saturday (11/8). Quarterback Heath Parling was named the Week 10 GLIAC "Offensive Player of the Week" for his efforts last Saturday. The senior has led the GVSU offense throwing for 236.8 yards per game and has 19 touchdowns on the year. The Laker defense has recorded 24 sacks on the season which is good for second in the conference.
