ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell 8-1 today (Sept. 20) at Grand Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.
Picking up the only point of the contest for the Cardinals was freshman Izabella Ismailova (Almaty, Kazkhstan/Military College of Sport) in No. 1 singles, as she edged-out her Laker opponent in a three set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-2, 10-1.
Erin Doud (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) and Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) fought hard in their No. 3 and No. 2 singles matches but would fall short, losing 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively.
With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 2-6 overall on the season and in GLIAC while Grand Valley improves to 5-1 overall and in conference play.
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow (Sept. 21) when they travel to face Northwood University for a conference match set to begin at 10:00 AM.
