PUEBLO, Colo. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed on day two of the NCAA DII Outdoor Championship and were led by a strong performance from All-American Tyler Grob in the decathlon.   

Men
Senior Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich.) earned All-American honors with a fourth place finish in the decathlon.  His final point total of 7,230 is a new SVSU school record.  Grob grabbed a tenth place finish to open the day in the 110 hurdles, before putting together three strong events as he made a move to the top of the field.  He earned second place honors in the discus with a throw of 38.28 meters, before earning top finishes in the pole vault with a leap of 5.00 meters and crossed the line in 4:31.55 in the 1500 meter run.    

Senior David Ray (Lansing, Mich. / Eastern HS) would miss out on the finals in the 110 meter hurdles after finishing in 11th place in the prelims with a time of 14.11.

Junior Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich. / Sterling Heights HS) finished in 11th place overall in the high jump with a leap of 2.05 meters.

Sophomore Travis Toye (Davison, Mich.) did not qualify for the finals in the 800 meter run after finishing outside the top nine in the prelims, crossing the line with a final time of 1:55.23.

Women
On the women's side, 2013 GLIAC 'Freshman Runner of the Year' Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich.) finished just outside of the top nine in the prelims of the 800 meter with a final time of 2:11.70.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ola Hendler (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge HS), Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich.), Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich.) and Shavonne Roberson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) did not qualify for the finals after finishing 13th in the prelims with a time of 3:50.72.

Saginaw Valley will have its final two student-athletes compete on the last day of the championships.  Sophomore Emerald Joiner (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) will participate in the shot put, while sophomore Emily Short (Tawas, Mich.) will run in the 5000 meters.
