ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory over Christopher Newport today (Mar. 5) on day two of their spring trip to Florida.
The Cardinals got off to a great start in doubles with the No. 1 tandem of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China / Shiyang HS) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS) picking up an 8-3 victory. Also grabbing a win was the team of Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island / Colonel Gray Senior High) and Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich.) at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
The Cardinals also faired well in singles with Shangguan, Woody and Doud all picking up staight set victories. Shangguan won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Woody defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2. Doud cruised to an easy point against her opponent at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1.
With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 11-9 overall on the season and will return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 6) when they play matches against Bellarmine and Montana State - Billings.
