UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team has been participating in helping the Great Lakes Bay Miracle League when it gets together and plays little league baseball on Saturday mornings.

The team has enjoyed assisting the league twice and has two more visits scheduled on October 19th and 26th.

The Great Lakes Bay Miracle League is a non-profit organization devoted to improving life for disabled children and their families by offering opportunities to take part in recreational programs. It was established by SVSU alumnus Eric Rutherford. In 2012, SVSU students raised more than $30,000 for the league during the annual "Battle of the Valleys" fundraising competition.

SVSU Athletics encourages volunteer service by its student-athletes and is a three-time recipient of the NCAA Community Engagement Award of Excellence.
