UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell to Northwood University today (Sept. 26), 8-1. The Cardinals fall to 5-2 overall on the season and in the GLIAC while Northwood improves to 8-0 overall on the season and in the conference.
Picking up the only point of the afternoon for the Cardinals was Erin Doud (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) in No. 5 singles who defeated her Northwood opponent 7-6, 6-3 to keep an impressive undefeated record on the season in singles competition. Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) battled in her match, but was outdone in No. 4 singles, falling 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Kelli Close (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow HS) fell short in their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2.
The SVSU tennis team will return to action on Thursday (Sept. 27) when they host Ferris State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at 2:00 pm at the SVSU Tennis Complex.
