FINDLAY, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team posted their first win of the season today (9/24) by defeating the Findlay Oilers, 9-0.
Junior Theresa Frederick (Saginaw, Mich./Bay City Western HS) led the Cardinals in singles match play winning both sets, 6-0, against Christina Terry. The team of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Megan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) would lead No. 1 doubles match play winning, 8-1. Shangguan would also defeat Holly Vietzke 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play while Woody would overcome Jessica Adkins 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play. The sophomore doubles team of Annessa Campian (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) and Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) dominated match play winning 8-0, both Campian and Wong would win their singles matches as well: Campian 6-0, 6-3 and Wong 6-4, 6-1. Bobbi Enos (Almont, Mich./Almont HS) earned a singles win for the Cardinals defeating Beverly Beavers 6-2, 6-1. Enos also earned a win in doubles play with Katie Piorkowski (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) with a score of 8-0.
The Cadinals will be back in action again Thursday (9/29) when they host Lake Erie for a 2:00 pm start.
