UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University
women's soccer team suffered its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) loss today (Sept. 19) falling to the
University of Findlay, 2-1.
The Cardinals were only able to get one shot on goal in the
first half of the contest as they entered halftime with a 0-0
tie. The Oilers got on the board first in the second half,
but Saginaw Valley answered back just seven minutes later to make
the game 1-1. Sophomore Tiffany Bell (Troy,
Mich. / Troy Athens HS) netted her second goal of the season off a
pass from freshman Kellsey Posten (New Boston, Mich. / New Boston
Huron HS). The one goal was not enough as Findlay scored at
the 69:12 mark to end the contest at 2-1.
Sophomore goaltender Laure Van de Valk (Burlington, Ont. /
Assumption Catholic SS HS) got her first start in goal, saving four
shots and making her 0-1 on the season. The Cardinals had a
total of eleven shots, five of which were on goal.
With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 4-2-1 overall on the
season, and 3-1-1 in the GLIAC, while Findlay improves to 4-1-1
overall on the season, and 4-1-0 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals
will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 24) when they travel to
Northern Michigan University. Game time is scheduled for 2:00
pm.
