BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University softball team placed six players on the 2010 All-GLIAC
team.
Junior designated plater, Jessica McKeith
(River Rouge, Mich.) was selected to the first team, while senior
outfielder Angela Kaiser
(Waterford, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes HS), sophomore
utility player Lauren Memmer
(White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) and freshman pitcher Alexa Gehrls
(Caledonia, Mich.) earned second team nods. Seniors Kari Bowlby
(Elkhart, Ind./Central HS) and Billi Hoeppner
(Hemlock, Mich.) were honorable mention selections.
McKeith batted .300 this season in GLIAC games with a team high
three homeruns and 19 RBI's. She was 6-for-7 in stolen base
attempts and was second on the team with a .533 slugging
percentage. Kaiser batted .343 in conference with two
homeruns and 11 RBI's and led the team with a .446 on-base
percentage. Memmer batted .365 with 21 hits in the GLIAC and
led the team with 12 stolen bases. Gehrls was 2-4 in the
circle and had a team low 2.48 ERA and struck out 28 batters for
the Cardinals. Bowlby led the Cardinals with five wins in the
GLIAC and 35 strikeouts, while Hoeppner batted a team high .347 and
had nine stolen bases.
Saginaw Valley will await word on Monday (May 10) to see if they
qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division II postseason for a third
straight season.
